A little help in choosing those wedding colours
It gives me tremendous pleasure to announce that bright colours are back! Now for some of us they never really left, but they really seem to be featuring heavily in the wedding industry this year. Those of you who know me will know that this makes me extremely happy š Donāt get me wrong, I do love the purity and subtlety of white and the gorgeous feminine blush tones which are very popular at the moment but there is a small childlike excitement inside of me which is allowed out to play when a client requests bright and happy colours for their wedding flowers.
Ā Having just exhibited at the Belles Events Quirky Boutique wedding fair I found I had a really great response to the colours I had chosen – oranges, yellows, pinks and lots of fresh green. A popular combination at the moment (not that Iām suggesting you should follow trendsā¦) is the vibrant contrast of pinks, oranges and turquoises. Pinks and oranges really work well against a turquoise background, meaning your flowers stand out nicely in your photographs. Check out my pinterest board here for some more inspiration on that fabulous colour combination.Ā Ā
There are so many beautiful colours to choose from and so many examples online of other peopleās wedding colour themesĀ but how to choose your own wedding colours? A lot has to do with what your favourite colours are already, or (in my case) what your favourite flowers are and the colours they are available in! My advice for working with bright colour is to pick two colours you love and which look pleasing together, to add an extra zing to things have a look at a colour wheel and pick a colour which lies roughly opposite. This will add a real pop to the harmonious colours you have chosen. See how the bright green in the bouquet below really sets off the orange and pink?
Secondly, get pinning. Pinterest has a wealth of inspiration and all sorts of different colour combinations for you to see – sometimes it helps to see your colours right in front of you to understand whether the are really going to work or not. I also find looking at paint charts very inspiring – thereās just something about all those shades lined up together that I find exciting! But that might just be me…
Remember to have fun with your colours. It feels as if there is some kind of unwritten rule where by colours need to be subtle and ‘weddingy’ I STRONGLY disagree! It is your day and you have to go with theĀ colours that inspire you, not anyone else.
